Rising star J.Marques Johnson is no stranger to the spotlight as he has quickly become a fan favorite on the hit Tyler Perry and BET Plus series ‘All The Queens Men’. His portrayal as Rayshon the funny, naive, charming and sometimes innocent stripper has truly made him one to watch in television. His charismatic performance on the show beautifully showcases his range as an actor as his character goes through some trying and traumatic events which ultimately leads him into a space of despair and depression. As he self destructs throughout the season we see the importance of mental health and how many suffer in silence far too often, until they ultimately reach their breaking point. For many viewers, his storyline is relatable in so many ways so of course his growing fan base continuously reaches out to him with gratitude for his performance.

As an Actor/Model/Writer Josh aka J Marques is truly just sharing a piece of his light through his art that shines on and off camera. If you follow the Los Angeles native on social media then you know that he takes his physical and mental health more serious than anything, so it should come as no surprise that during Suicide Awareness Month he has chosen to help spread the word about 988 Lifeline. On September 8th Joshua along with his father legendary NBA player Marques Johnson attended the 988 Lifeline Charity Event, Benefiting Suicide Prevention. The special event held at The Orpheum Theatre was powerful and eye opening to see how many have truly been affected by Suicide. After Mr Johnson shared his post on Instagram about being in attendance, we had to speak with him directly about his own personal journey with mental health.

As I began to speak with the breakout star, it was clear to see how serious he is about his mental health and how he wants others to take theirs just as serious. We began to discuss his journey with Therapy and Healing and although it hasn’t been easy, it has truly changed him for the better. He mentions “Therapy just wasn’t a thought, man up just do something hard to channel it. You know so Fitness was always kind of my outlet. Up until i realized you know fitness wasn’t the only thing i was using to cope with my things. But I got to a point where I knew I needed help and luckily for me I have a strong circle of friends and family around me, a great support group. Knowing that everyone doesn’t have that same resource that I have so, I’m on a crusade to help people of every creed, race, religion to seek that help out”.. Now of course we talk about so much more in this in depth chat so it was only right that we shared the stream of it below.
