Last night we had the pleasure of attending 4x Grammy Award winning powerhouse Lalah Hathaway’s sold out concert at the legendary Highline Ballroom , and from the beginning of the show we clearly knew why she packed the house out. The soulful singer kicked off her set with her latest single ‘Honestly’ which is also the title of her new album that she celebrated all night throughout her show. Lalah performed some of her new cuts like ‘ I Can’t Wait’ and ‘Mirror’ but what constantly makes her win over the crowd is her incredible covers of classics like ‘Summertime’ , ‘Angel’ & ‘Rapture’. Ms Hathaway is a true musician who uses her voice as an instrument to captivate every listener as she sings effortlessly into the mic. But just when we thought we had enough she performs her fan favorite hit ‘Forever, For Always , For Love’ which brought the house down and as fans thought the show was over her encore performance of ‘Something’ was simply breathtaking. Now as the daughter of the late & great icon Donny Hathaway, its sometimes scary to see & hear his influence on her through her vocal performance but that’s what makes her great because she still knows how to stand out on her own. Please do yourself a favor and see this women in concert if you haven’t already, i promise you its one show you wont regret. If you missed out on last nights show, check out exclusive footage for a limited time below.

Last night we had the pleasure of watching British breakout superstar Jessie J take over NYC as she closed out her sold out R.O.S.E Tour held at Le Poisson Rouge. The intimate venue was jam packed with fans ,friends & media who have been waiting to see the sultry vocal powerhouse make her return to the stage after a brief absence. With a line wrapped around the block to see the shining star , it was clear that this show was the only place to be if you live in NYC. The soulful songstress hit the stage with a vengeance as if she hasn’t missed a beat and like the true performer that she is she gave us one hell of a show as she sang some of her fan favorite hits like ‘Who You Are’ , ‘Nobody’s Perfect’ , ‘ Mama Knows Best’ ,’Flashlight’ , ‘Masterpiece’ , ‘Thunder’ , ‘Price Tag’, ‘Bang Bang’ & ‘Do It Like A Dude’.

Now of course those songs were expected and she gave us everything we were waiting for but her performance of her new material was even more impressive. Jessie briefly told the crowd that she was stuck in a place of confusion and just didn’t want to perform or record any music but thankfully she met DJ Camper who helped inspire her to create again and what came from it , is truly brilliant. Jessie put her heart into records like ‘Real Deal’ , ‘Think About That’ & ‘Not My Ex’ which showed such growth in her already magnetic show which kept the fans wanting more. If this is any indication of whats to come on her anticipated third album ‘R.O.S.E’ then the world is in for one hell of a musical masterpiece. If your weren’t able to catch her this go around check out footage from the show which is only available for a limited time, but trust me after watching you wont ever miss out on a Jessie J show if she comes to your city.

So tonight rap diva Cardi B was in for the surprise of her life. The BX native took the stage at Power 99 Powerhouse Concert In Philly at the Wells Fargo Center and let’s just say what happened next was definitely not apart of the show. After taking the stage with Migos to perform their new single “Motor Sport” the rappers now fiancé rap star Offset got on one knee in front of thousands of fans to propose to his Queen. Well clearly she said YES , but you just have to see the exciting moment for yourself below. Congrats to the couple on their upcoming nuptials, let’s hope this one will last.

Last night some of musics biggest stars came out in NYC for Power 105.1 annual Powerhouse Concert. The sold out event held at the Barclays Center was jam packed with fans & media ready in excitement to see some of today’s finest in Hip Hop and r&b. The show kicked off with dancehall star Kranium who rocked the stage with special guest ‘Power’ star Rotimi. Up next was The Breakfast Club’s own DJ Envy who took over the stage with a few special friends including ASAP Ferg , Casanova , Busta Rhymes & Tee Grizzley. Now that was just within the first half hour of the night so with that being said, trust me the show was only gonna get crazier. Bad Boy’s own French Montana hit the stage next and rocked the crowd with some of his fan favorite hits which kept the crowd on their feet as they sang along to every word , but what happened next was a sight to see. Philly’s own Lil Uzi Vert shook up the building as he jumped off the stage and performed in the stands with fans which sent the crowd into a frenzy. His rock star antics on stage proved exactly why he is one today’s biggest stars.

Now if that wasn’t enough then up next was the Bronx Queen Cardi B who was clearly the lady of the night. The breakout rap diva hit the stage with a vengeance backed by dancers as she performed some of her fan favorite tracks from her mix-tape. But when ‘Bodak Yellow’ came on the crowd sang along so loud you could barely hear the rap star over them. Just when the crowd thought she was done she decided to close out her set with special guest G-Eazy to perform their hit single ‘No Limit’ and trust me their was still more in store. Rap superstars Migos were up next and as always they lit the stage on fire performing some of the big hits like ‘Hannah Montana’ , ‘T-Shirt’ and of course ‘Bad and Boujee’. Just when we thought that was all the rap crew decided to premiere their new single ‘Motor Sport’ exclusively for the crowd which sent everyone into a frenzy since the track features Nicki Minaj & Cardi B. Honestly the show could’ve ended there and all would be well but we still had one more act to go. Superstar The Weekend closed out the big night backed by his band and a killer light show which made everyone feel like they had front row seats to his actual tour. The Weekend cranked out hit after hit and also brought out a few special guest including rap stars Belly & Travis Scott. Powerhouse once again proved why it stands the must see concert of the year in NYC and trust me if you were there you can surely see why it will always sell out. Hopefully you were there but if you weren’t well give you a preview of what you missed out on. Check out some exclusive pics and footage from last night and as always we hope to see be back next year.

Last night we had the pleasure of coming out to the legendary Highline Ballroom in NYC to catch British soul singer Daley as he kicked off the first week of his Spectrum Tour in support of his new album. The big night kicked off with rising star musician/singer Kenneth Whalum who has finally stepped out on his own with his debut album ‘Broken Land’. Kenneth who is mostly known for working some of music’s biggest stars including Jay-Z , Maxwell & Frank Ocean took the stage with confidence like a seasoned pro as he performed some of his new tracks which set the tone for the night and left the crowd ready for more. Up next was soulful songstress Tiffany Gouche who was a breath of fresh air. The California native commanded the stage with her powerhouse vocals which took the audience’s breath away as she sang every song with conviction effortlessly. Though i knew of the singer/songwriter it was clear many in the crowd had no clue who she was but within minutes she won everyone over and instantly it was clear why Daley brought her along for the ride.

Now it was time for what everyone was waiting for and Daley kicked off his set with a neon rainbow backdrop, whole holding a matching colorful umbrella which clearly was a sign of one hell of show was about to take place. Daley took the stage and performed some of his fan favorite hits including ‘Time Travel’ ,’Selfish’ , ‘Until The Pain Is Gone’ , ‘Remember Me’ , ‘Slow Burn‘ & more but was stood out to me was the arrangements in his show. Daley would perform one of his own records which would turn into a medley of some r&b classics like SWV’s ‘Weak’ , Jon B’s ‘ They Don’t Know ‘ & Joe’s ‘I Wanna Know’ which proved just why we love his voice. The soulful powerhouse sang his heart out as fans sang along to just about every word and just when we thought we couldn’t get enough he performed his classic single ‘Alone Together’ which floored everyone in the building. Daley’s show was just a glimpse into why his star continues to shine and if you were then you know exactly what i meant. With albums like ‘Days+Nights’ & ‘The Spectrum’ its clear why this man is here to stay. Check out a few clips via Instagram to see exactly what i mean and if the show is coming to your city, trust me its a show you don’t want to miss.

Superstar actors Vivica A Fox , Rotimi & Stephen Bishop came together with reality tv star Evelyn Lozada for a special panel about working in tv , film and the effects of social media. Up next rap power couple Remy Ma and Papoose joined the panel along with Gospel star JJ Hairston and his wife to talk with Essence Magazines Charreah K Jackson about love , relationships and the family dynamic. Rev Al Sharpton took the stage for a special discussion with Raqiyah Mays as he touched on everything from politics , religion , the community , health care and more.

The King of r&b Bobby Brown was in the building once again with his infamous BBQ sauce and fried chicken which had the crowd ready for a sample as they purchased his cook book. Chef Carla Hall who is also one of the co-host of ABC’s ‘The Chew’ hit the cooking pavilion as well to give the crowd some interesting recipes to take with them back home while a lucky few got to taste a sample of some of her flavorful dishes. Now if that wasn’t enough Miss Robbie famous for her chain of soul food restaurants and her hit OWN series ‘Welcome To Sweetie Pies’ was another crowd favorite as fans couldn’t wait to see her in action as she showed off some of her world famous dishes. Cooking and eating is always a crowd pleaser but health care and fitness is also a big part of the expo so of course it made sense to have Dr Ian Smith in attendance to talk about the importance of health , dieting and physical fitness. Actress Elise Neal also came out to get the crowd in shape with a special demonstration of her Body Bootcamp.

The legendary Cicely Tyson was also in attendance as Circle Of Sisters honored the iconic actress of film ,television and theater for all her work on and off the screen. WBLS proudly presented her with the living legend award as fans watched her graciously accept the honor with a standing ovation. This in itself was the perfect way to close out such an amazing day but we cant forget to mention all the incredible artist that hit the stage. Singer/Actress Demetria McKinney hit the stage to promote her debut album and performed her top 5 hit ‘Easy’ . British r&b diva Estelle took over the stage with a showstopping set backed by two dancers as she performed some of her classics like ‘Thank You’ , ‘Conqueror’ , ‘Break My Heart , ‘Come Over’ & ‘American Boy’ . Grammy Award winning Toronto native Melanie Fiona made her way to the stage and gave the crowd everything they wanted as she performed her fan favorite hits like ‘4 AM’ ,’ Give It To Me Right’ , ‘Fool For You’ & ‘It Kills Me’. 90’s heartthrobs Hi-Five took the crowd back as they performed their classics ‘She’s Playing Hard To Get’ & ‘Wait Another Minute’ . Sultry powerhouse Sevyn Streeter rocked the crowd with her seductive dance moves and gave one hell of a show which proves why this ‘Girl Disrupted’ is here to stay. Now if that wasn’t enough the ‘Savage’ r&b powerhouse TANK took over the stage and the ladies made sure he knew that he was heavily in demand as they screamed non-stop and sang along to every word of some his hits like ‘Can We’ , ‘I Deserve’ & ‘Please Don’t Go’. If you were there then you know exactly why Circle Of Sisters is the place to be but if you weren’t there’s always next year. Check out footage from the special day below.

This past weekend some of film & television’s biggest stars came out for the 2017 Urbanworld Film Festival and trust me as always its just gets better & better. The big event held in NYC at the AMC Empire 25 in Times Square was already off to a great start with the premiere of Tales on BET but that was clearly just a taste of what was to come. Friday fans, media , celebs & more came out to check out more films and the most interesting piece of the night was ‘Double Play’ which starred Louis Gossett Jr, LaLa Anthony , Lennie James , Colin Salmon ,Mustafa Shakir , Isaach De Bankolé , Alexander Karim , Saycon Sengbloh ,Melanie Liburd , Dani Dare & Bronson Pinchot. The Ernest Dickerson directed film set in Curacao followed the coming of age story of Dr. Ostrik Fiel’s as he returns to his childhood home which bring back the haunting memories of a life changing events which changed the lives of four men and two women due to love, loss and a deadly betrayal. This film was the perfect choice for a spotlight feature which left everyone in awe.

Now If that wasn’t enough Saturday the cast of OWN TV’s hit series ‘Queen Sugar’ packed out the AMC Theater as fans came out to see the mid-season 2 premiere of the Ava Duvernay show which follows the Bordelon family as they try to rebuild their lives after the passing of their father who left them his land which leads them to work out their differences and come together as they try to figure out their own drama which seems to never end. Some of the shows stars including Rutina Wesley, Dawn-Lyen Gardner , Kofi Siriboe , Omar J. Dorsey & Ethan Hutchison came out for the special screening and Q&A panel which clearly was a winner with this years audience.

Actress Gabourey Sidibe stepped behind the lens as as director this year with the premiere of her short film ‘The Tale Of Four’ . The short inspired by Nina Simone’s song ‘Four Women’ was a powerful piece that showcased a real story of women connected by the inner city building that they live in, as they all deal with hardships on one fateful day which brings them together through acts of bravery. The film which starred Jussie Smollett , Dana Gourrier , Ledisi Young , Aisha Hinds , Phyllis Yvonne Stickney 8 Meagan Kimberly Smith is a must see that definitely left the audience speechless.

Closing out this years festival was the highly anticipated Reginald Hudlin directed film “Marshall”. The films stars Chadwick Boseman , Sterling K Brown , Kate Hudson & Josh Gad were all in attendance for the big event along with songbird Andra Day who sings the theme song for the film’s soundtrack. The movie based on Thurgood Marshall & Samuel Friedman case as they defend a black chauffeur against his employer during the civil rights movement was the perfect way to end this years festival. The movie received a standing ovation before the special Q&A kicked off and trust me this film is going straight to the Oscars with stellar performances from this cast . This year Urbanworld truly didn’t disappoint and exceeded everyone expectations as always. Check out pics & footage from the big weekend below and make sure you’re there next year as things will continue to get bigger and better.
