Last night we had the pleasure of seeing the hit Broadway Play FELA at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre and what a show it was. Now unless you have been living under a rock the show which is based on the late Nigerian singer Fela Kuti has been the talk of the town since it opened on Broadway in Nov of 2009 and due to the success of the play which might i add racked up 3 Tony Awards has resurfaced once again for a limited run which will once again come to a close this August. Usually when you come to a Broadway show you of course are entertained by the numerous musical numbers but what we didnt expect was for the dancers/actors to be so hands on with the crowd which had us up on our feet as soon as the play began which set the show off perfectly.

The musical numbers were choreographed brilliantly by the Award winning Bill T Jones which kept us in awe as i watched my friend Danny Soto shine on stage with his cast. Danny who is Brooklyn Native is a part of the Ensemble cast who started out with the show since the beginning of its run off Broadway in 2008. Now although Adesola Osakulami is the lead actor in the show as Fela, it goes as no surprise that the cast of dancers and singers make this show as its not a one man stage play. Throughout the story of Fela’s life we definitely seen the significance of his music & culture in today’s music which is why the show will continue on tour next year. When asked about why Danny felt the show was a success he mentioned that ‘ Its a show that tells a story close to home for anyone that has ever felt like they had to be in search for something greater in life and would do whatever it takes to make it happen ‘. Now of course I could be biased and say we totally agree because i know him, but the show is just that great and leaves you wanting to fight for your dreams. Jay-Z, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith & QuestLove are just some of the notable producers of this play and were thankful they helped bring the show to light. So do yourself a favor and make sure you capture this brilliant show before it hits the road by purchasing tickets HERE then tell us what you thought.

R&B Vocal Powerhouse Kelly Price is back with her new self titled album KELLY.This is the songstress 5th offering to us and though we havent had a cd from her since 2006 it was well worth the wait. The album opens up with a powerful ballad called “Tired” in which kelly states passionately that’s she tired of all the drama & pain in her life. The song may be called Tired but i guarantee you wont be tired of listening to it or any of the other records on this album. Kelly lead single “Not My Daddy” features Stokely of mind condtion. These two vocalist fit perfectly on a record tho the song speaks on a relationship thats far from perfect. Other notable records include “Himaholic” where Kelly just cant get enough of her man, which is def gonna be a ladies anthem. One of my favorites is the old school dance record called ” And you dont stop“. This record will def be on repeat and have u on ur feet bussin a step or two. If you love an old school feel good ballad then check out the closing track “Get Right or Get Left”. This record is reminiscent of a modern Betty Wright record that will have you singing along immediatley. Trust me this album has something for everyone. Be sure to pick it up in stores this tues May 3rd. Click here to purchase
