Synopsis
“Somebody’s Son” was sparked by the viral hashtag and saying”#SomebodysSon,” a term used that began to trend online as Black women expressed their desire to find Black love. OWN brings that essence to life in the form of the new dating series, which follows three charming, single and successful men as they set out on a mission to find true long-lasting love. And instead of bringing their best buds to help, they’ve enlisted their mothers to tell them which woman suits them best. Each of their moms will give them insight, guidance, support and maybe a little drama along the way. In addition to getting to know one another, the singles will also take part in competitive challenges, bonding activities and heartfelt moments all while the mothers stand by as their sons coaches.
Each bachelor will be introduced to four women, all with very high standards of their own. The ladies are eager to meet their potential match but will be shocked when they discover that the mothers will not only be guiding their sons through the entire experience, they’ll also be living under the same roof with their sons and the daters. And unlike many other dating shows, even after the men (and their moms) think they’ve found their perfect match doesn’t mean the deal is done. These single women are independent and successful on their own, and the men need to prove themselves worthy of a happily ever after with them.
Joshua, a 28-year-old NFL Free Agent, and his aunt Celes, a nurse who has been Josh’s primary mother figure in life, look for a chill and ambitious partner. Joshua’s potential matches are Lexi, a tech marketing manager; Martha, a nurse; Chambriel, a mortgage broker; and Tamerras, a news producer.
James, a 29-year-old cyber security engineer, and his mother Charlease, a founder/managing partner, desire a traditional relationship. James’ potential matches include Bre’Von, an HR manager; Chisom, an IT consultant; Sabranae, a property manager; and Alyssia, a digital marketing coordinator.
Chadd, a 30-year-old SEC financial reporting analyst, and his mother Katina, a cosmetologist and minister, seek a woman of faith ready to start a family. Chadd’s potential matches include Miranda, a corporate HR professional; Loren, a hair stylist and salon owner; Jasmine, an esthetician; and Paige, a business analyst and sports broadcaster.
