Rapper Dris Rip is a star on the rise who is truly bringing the art form of rhymes and word play back to Hip-Hop. The Brooklyn, NY native has always had a passion for music growing up but his love for the arts started in a different way. The creative talent grew up listening to all genres of music at home from Jazz, Latin, R&B, Pop and Rap. Now it makes sense why he sites Stevie Wonder as his all time favorite, but it was Artist like A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, RZA, Jay-Z, Common and The Notorious B.I.G which truly sparked a flame in him. Early on his parents noticed his talent for drawing illustrations at home and in school which ultimately led them to enroll him in an arts program to help him nurture his gift. His love for art developed as he grew older which ultimately led to him to attending the prestigious LaGuardia High School. It was there as an Art major where he truly became alive as now being surrounded by other kids just like him who had a passion for the arts.

Slowly but surely Idris decided to not only showcase his gift for drawing but his talent for rap. He first noticed that he was onto something while free styling with his cousins on a family road trip and they immediately set off a switch that maybe he could really do this as well. It also helped that his big brother Shareef aka Reef Rock was apart of a rap group at the time who was slowly gaining traction in NYC with appearance on BET. His brother pushed him to showcase his talents as well and little by little Dris Rip started to take his talents more serious doing cyphers with friends in school and in the neighborhood before he finally decided to take the stage front and center at LaGuardias Black Alliance show. Now although he started to display his skills and even released a project ‘The Angry‘ back in 2005, he slowly stepped away from the mic as he decided to figure things out as most do on their journey in life.

As years passed Idris put more focus into his first passion with Art while attending F.I.T. It was there where his worlds would both collide again as he continued to perform for different events at school as well as on the job as he mentored other kids in High School which proved to be a blessing in disguise. One of his students now known as Scotty Mac would send him some of his production which pushed Dris to set up his home studio and get back to cutting records. He would eventually start dropping tracks via SoundCloud which ultimately would give him the drive to keep going with music. To top it off being a graphic designer allowed him to create his own artwork and website which once again allowed him to use all of his talents as an artist to push his music forward. In the past 3 years Dris Rip been making some noise as he continued to drop some buzz worthy projects including ‘The Rapper’ and ‘The Other Side Of Tomorrow’ which has started to cultivate an underground following as his audience continued to grow.

Now like the rest of the world the Brooklyn emcee was truly unsure of what the future held as the world shut down due to Covid-19. But the great thing about having a home studio and being a graphic designer is that he can easily get right back to work and continue to push forward as he teamed up with United Masters to distribute his latest project. Dris recently teamed back up with his longtime production partner/friend Garv Grand who also attended LaGuardia High School, to work on his latest single ‘Ready Up‘. The two have teamed up over the years for multiple projects including his album ‘The Angry’, singles ‘Nobody’, ‘The Countdown’ and ‘Intermission’ so it only made sense for them to create magic once again. The track which was inspired by his Godson is just a warmup of things to come from his highly anticipated EP which is set to drop later this spring. Get into the track and his other projects which all available on multiple music streaming platforms HERE.
