Now it’s been a minute , 3 years to be exact but RnB Spotlight is back and from the looks of it it’s just getting bigger and better. Last night Music Manager & TV producer Cory Taylor brought back his popular showcase to the legendary SOB’s but this time with some special guest. Grammy award winning R&B legend Faith Evans and media mogul Datwon Thomas ( VIBE , BIllboard , KING ) has joined forces with Cory for a special project with some of today’s finest rising stars and trust me they definitely have one hell of task at hand. Over the past few months the 3 put together a nationwide talent search via Instagram to find some incredible talent for a special music project. Now of course the submissions were overwhelming but some of the finalist for their project made their way to the big stage for what was sure to be one hell of a show.

Indie artist Mag Elliott , Jay Marie , Jerzey Shawn , Quiona & Timothy McClure all hit the stage to perform classic covers of songs which definitely kept the crowd wanting more but there were a few stand outs that completely won us over. Soulful crooner Damon Parker took over the stage with a powerful cover of Brian McKnight’s “ Never Felt This Way “ which left everyone wondering where the hell this Virginia native has been hiding his gift that is truly needed today in R&B. One song wasn’t enough from this man and it was clear that if this was any indication of what he could bring to music , then he is definitely on his way. Powerhouse songstress Sharron Sings took control of the stage with a sultry performance of Avery Sunshine’s “ Call My Name “ but with a special twist she made that song all her own by adding a medley of Destiny’s Child classic hits “Say My Name” & “No No No” .

So what makes NYC so special is that you just never know what can happen on the spot and in this case thats what led the crowd to being introduced to a new sultry group Volume 4. The ladies who were just in attendance was given a shot to hit the stage and to our pleasant surprise , they hit us with a special Acapella medley of classic 90’s hits which definitely gave us that feel of girl groups we desperately have been missing today in music. But up next was rising star Steve Lovell who stole the show with his rendition of Floetry’s “ Say Yes “. Now it should come as no surprise that New Jersey is filled with incredible talent , I mean let’s not forget where the VOICE Whitney Houston comes from as well as the r&b diva Faith Evans herself. So it makes sense why Steve was their pick for this showcase but that man sang that song like I have never heard it before and honestly I’m not sure if I ever want to hear anyone else touch it besides him. He clearly was the highlight of the nites showcase but with acts like this , it’s clear to see that this special project is about to be something we all have been missing. Now if that wasn’t enough the legend herself Faith Evans hit the stage to perform her classic hit “ Love Like This “ with some special help from this special lineup of talent which has surely made their mark on the crowd tonite. Last night proved that Cory Taylor’s mission to keep real RnB alive has not gone in vain and with Faith & Datwon on his team , the best is yet to come. If you didn’t have the chance to come out , check out some of our exclusive footage from the special night below.

This past weekend some of Hollywood’s finest took over The AMC Empire 25 movie theater in NYC for the 2018 UrbanWorld Film Festival. Press , filmmakers & some lucky fans came out daily to attend special screenings of highly anticipated films , tv shows , panels & more exclusively before they are released to the general public. Thursday “PIMP” which stars KeKe Palmer was just the beginning of incredible films to be screening for the festival and trust me this movie was a must see. The Lee Daniels produced film took home the Audience Award for Best feature film due to the powerful performances from KeKe & Aunjanue L. Ellis. Friday’s Spotlight feature was “Widows” and it was clear that UrbanWorld knew exactly what the audience needed to see. The explosive film which stars Viola Davis , Liam Neeson , Michelle Rodriguez , Cynthia Erivio , Daniel Kaluuya , Colin Farrell & Elizabeth Debicki had the audience on their edge of their seat one minute , then screaming or gasping next at the action packed film which is sure to take over the Box Office when it’s hits theaters in Novemeber.

Now if that wasn’t enough , Saturday was jam packed with so much black star power in the building for the festivals closing night. Comedic superstar Lil Rel Howrey stopped by the festival to preview a new episode of his upcoming FOX series “REL”.

The special screening ended with the cast sitting down for a Q&A as they dropped gems on the crowd of aspiring actors , directors & more who clearly loved every minute of the action packed thriller. To close out this year’s festival , the spotlight feature was the highly anticipated 20th Century Fox Film “The Hate U Give”. Two of the film’s stars Amandla Stenberg & Algee Smith were in attendance along with the film’s director George Tillman to premiere the emotional film which left everyone speechless. Notable stars also in attendance to see the must see movie of the year included Boris Kodjoe , Niecey Nash , Joe Morton , Simone Missick and Omar Dorsey. The movie which hit home for the audience due to the film’s portrayal of a girl and her family dealing with the aftermath of another innocent black man being killed by Police Brutality , was just the film we needed to see to keep the conversation going that Black Lives Matter.

The movie which sent us on an emotional roller coaster was beautifully done so it was only right that we all stood up to give their brilliant work of Art a standing ovation. Oscar nominated director Ava Duvernay joined the cast and director for a special Q&A to talk about the powerful film which were sure will be the movie of the year. Amandla Stenberg’s brilliant portrayal of “Starr” will definitely be praised by the masses and every award she receives is well deserved. This year’s film festival once again proved that African Americans and other minority’s are just as powerful on the screen and behind the lenses and one things for sure , I will always support this festival whenever i can because it shows us that our work is just as important , powerful and brilliant when given the right representation. Hopefully you were there this year , but if you weren’t check out exclusive footage from this year’s festival below.

Last night we had the pleasure of attending the 90s Block Party Tour here in NYC and trust when I tell you it was one of hell of a show. G Squared Events brought one of the most highly anticipated concert series to the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden and of course the show was completely sold out with an all star lineup like this. The must show kicked off with reunited r&b trio NEXT who brought down the house performing some of their classic hits including “Butta Love” , “We Can’t Be Friends” , “Wifey” , & “Too Close” which had the crowd hype as they sung along to every song word for word. Now it didn’t help that RL hopped off the stage to serenade the ladies as he walked through the crowd while Tweety gave a serious striptease to the crowd which only had them wanting more & more.

Up next was Grammy Award winning powerhouse Monica who was ready to give the crowd one hell of a show. The “Miss Thang” songstress hit the stage with a full 4 piece band along with 3 background singers for what was clearly going to be a night to remember. As the only female act on the lineup , the Georgia peach blazed the stage with her sultry vocals as she performed some of her classics including “ Like This & Like That “ , “ Don’t Take It Personal “ , “Before You Walk Out My Life” , “Angel Of Mine” , “You Should’ve Known” , “Everything To Me” & “So Gone”. Mrs Brown held it down for the ladies as they sang along to every song with attitude and all. Now if that wasn’t enough she made sure to pay tribute to some of her icons who paved the way including the late & great Whitney Houston & Lauryn Hill which was the perfect way to keep the crowd engaged right here in the tri state area.

So the ladies man himself Ginuwine took over the stage next and if you weren’t there then you missed out one hell of an experience. The r&b sex symbol hit the stage with his band ready to take over and make it his own show & trust me that’s exactly what he did. Ginuwine took over MSG with his sex appeal as the ladies screamed louder and louder as he performed some of his classics like “In Those Jeans” , Hell Yeah”, “Same Ole G” , “ You Owe Me” , “So Anxious” , “Stingy” , “Differences” & of course his signature single “PONY”.

Honestly the show could’ve ended there but then up next was something we never expected. Grammy award winning powerhouses 112 took over the stage like only they could with their soulful voices and stylish moves and of course as they hit those steps they’re totally in sync performing their hit single “Dance With Me” & “Its Over Now”. Now while the crowd was ready for more of their hits the group quickly exited the stage , but what was next was surely not expected. Fellow Atlanta natives Jagged Edge then graced the stage performing some of their classics like “Let’s Get Married” & “I Gotta Be” which kept the ladies wanting more and just as the crowd was getting into , 112 then appears to perform more of their classics like “Cupid” & “You Already Know”. So now the crowd is starting to get into the flow of their show as Jagged Edge then hits the stage to perform “Walked Outta Heaven” & “Promise” but what happened next was truly unexpected. 112 then decided to join the stage with the fellas as they decided to take turns performing each others classic hits. The two groups then turn into an 8 man band as they perform “Anywhere” & “He Can’t Love You” together and trust me they did it so well, you would think these fellas have be performing on stage their whole careers together. Now if that wasn’t enough they once again teamed up to close their shows performing their classic hits “Only You” & “Where The Party At” which had everyone on their feet which left us wondering , why hasn’t this been done until now. Honestly the was probably the biggest highlight of the night because up until last night , we haven’t seen anything like this since the Motown Era which was way ahead of our times. The guys put a real show with the help of Brooke Payne and trust when I say this was one show the audience would never forget.

So when you think about the 90s you can’t forget the New Jack Swing era, so it was only right that the show had to include the legendary Teddy Riley along with his group GUY. The trio which consist of Teddy , Aaron Hall & his brother Damion hit the stage with a vengeance as they took over the stage performing some of their classic singles like “Groove Me” , “Teddy’s Jam” , “ Piece Of My Love” & “ I Like It”. But see that’s not where it ended because the group consist of 3 solo artist who gave us hits on their own so it course Damion had to perform his hit single “Satisfy You” , while Aaron took over the crowd performing his classic hit “I Miss You “. But then we couldn’t forget about super produced hit-maker Teddy Riley who ripped the stage running through his endless amount of hits from Michael Jackson , Blackstreet , Bobby Brown , Johnny Kemp , SWV , Wreckx N Effect , Heavy D , Kool Moe Dee , Keith Sweat , Hi-Five & more. Teddy Riley truly turned the show into a dance party and not one person wasn’t seen on their feet singing & dancing along like they were back in the 90s. The great thing about shows like this , is that for the moment we get to head back down memory lane and enjoy all the great music that the era has given us and honestly I can say that this was probably one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. Trust me you might want to do yourself a favor and head over to GSquaredEvents NOW to see if the show is coming to you city. Trust me when I say this is one show you don’t want to miss. Check out a few clips from the tour to see exactly what you’re in store for.
