Last night stars came out for the kick off of the 2017 Urbanworld Film Festival in NYC. The first night started off with a bang at the AMC Empire 25 in Times Square as filmmakers, writers , press & fans came out to see some of the featured works for the evening. Rapper/actor Trinidad James was in attendance as they screened the premiere of his new web series “Independent” , while actor Shaun Baker was in attendance for his film “Antone”. We also spotted actor Craig “Mums” Grant (OZ) who came out for the premiere of his film “The Middlegame”.

Now if that wasn’t enough Irv Gotti definitely took over the first night with the premiere of his latest episode of his hit BET anthology series “Tales”. The executive producer presented “Trap Queen” to the urbanworld audience and trust us it was a killer episode. Stars of the episode Michelle Mitchenor, Woody McClain and Jermel Howard were all in attendance for the big event which closed out with a special Q&A . “Trap Queen” which also stars Lance Gross was one hell of an episode filled with Drugs , Guns , Sex , Murder & tons of Action which has the audience screaming at the screen especially due to the trailblazing performance by the Trap Queen herself played by Michelle Mitchenor. You may know her from her roles in Spike Lee’s “Chi-Raq” or from FOX’s “Lethal Weapon” but trust me her performance in this role is must see tv in its finest. Make sure to look out for the episode when the show returns in Oct on BET. If you weren’t there last night check out pics & exclusive footage from the evening which is just a taste of what’s to come from this exciting weekend.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of coming out to see R&B super-group Day26 as they reunited in NYC at The Highline Ballroom. The Stars of MTV & Diddy’s “Making The Band” came together to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of their union as a group. Mike , Que , Brian , Willie & Rob announced the show back in May and with no surprise the show sold out immediately. Fans been waiting to see them come back together so it was only right that a second show was added due to the overwhelming response. The guys hit the stage to packed a crowd of screaming fans who sang along to every word of their 80 minute show which was jam packed with some of their fan favorite hits including ” Co-Star” , Since You’ve Been Gone ” , ” Babymaker ” , ” Girlfriend” , “Imma Put It On Her ” , ” Are We In This Together ” , ” Made Love Lately ” , ” Perfectly Blind ” , ” So Good ” , ” Got Me Going ” & more . Now if that wasn’t enough the audience was in for a special surprise as some of their former cast members including Donnie Klang who were in the running to be in the group hit the stage along side them for a special performance of their single “Exclusive”.

Now what was refreshing about the show to me was that although it’s been 10 years since their debut , the fellas performed on stage together with the same energy and hunger as if they never parted. Within recent years the sound of r&b has drastically changed and unfortunately boy bands have disappeared from mainstream but seeing their show just proves that people want real music and that’s exactly what Day 26 gave us. Now I’m not sure where this will take the group in the future but from the looks of it , the demand is heavy for new music and more shows to come. Watch as they take the stage to give the fans all they been waiting for & more as the best is yet to come.
