Last night we had the pleasure of attending rap diva Azealia Banks comeback concert held at the Highline Ballroom in NYC. The sold out show was packed with fans who waited hours to see the Harlem native rock the stage as only she could. The femcee backed by a 4 piece band , DJ and two dancers gave the fans all they wanted and more as she captivated the crowd with her sultry rap style. The ‘Young Rapunzel’ kept it very real about her troubles with the music industry and being blacklisted, but what was more refreshing to see was that she still prevailed and chooses to do their her own way. Last night there might of been a few sound issues as she put together a new show with her band which was new for her but the one thing that remained the same was her talent. Watch as she performs some of her fan favorites hits like ‘212’, ‘1991’ , ‘Chasing Time’ , ‘Desperado’ , ‘The Big Big Beat’ , ‘Heavy Metal And Reflective’ along with a few jazz standards which was a delightful surprise. Trust me this is only the beginning for her comeback , so don’t ever count Miss Banks out because the best is surely yet to come.

Last night i had the pleasure of attending a special pop up concert which featured rising star H.E.R . MBK & RCA Records brought out a select few of taste makers to finally see what the world has been buzzing about for over a year. The sultry singer/songwriter has dominated digital music platforms with over a million streams of her debut EP’s Vol 1 & Vol 2 which has had media , celebs and fans going crazy over the mysterious songbird. Some may know who she is due to Jeff Robinson and MBK’s hard work as they developed this shining star for years and trust me it has certainly paid off. H.E.R is the epitome of why Music Matters and last night she proved that her time is NOW. Fans have been waiting to see her perform some of her fan favorite hits and she gave them just a preview of it earlier this spring during this years BET Experience Now she will be hitting the road this summer as the supporting act for Bryson Tiller’s ‘Set It Off Tour’ which will surely give fans just a taste of what they been missing.

H.E.R may be new to the scene but last night she had the crowd in a trance like a seasoned vet commanding the stage with her sultry & soulful voice while every now and then rocking out on the guitar or stroking the keys on her piano. Watching her perform live its easy to compare her to greats like Aretha Franklin , Brandy , Alicia Keys , John Legend just to name a few, but H.E.R. is everything & more and the world will soon realize that her star has just began to rise. RCA records truly got it right with this one and from the looks of it, this is only just the beginning of what they have in the works for H.E.R . If you weren’t there to witness greatness like i was , then you’re in for a treat when you catch her on the road this summer.

The anticipate tour rolled its way into The Kings Theater in Brooklyn , so of course it immediately sold out. The show opener was NYC’s own SWV who kicked the night off with one hell of a set list. The “Sisters With Voices” made sure to turn NYC out as only they could being home as they performed hit after hit including some of their fan favorites like ” Im So Into You ” , ” Right Here ” , ” You’re The One ” , ” Rain ” , “Anything” & of course the iconic anthem” Weak ” . The girls (Coko, LeLee & Taj) who celebrate 25 years in the business proved that their star just continues to shine brighter & brighter.

Up next was the Funky Divas themselves En Vogue who made it clear that through their groups changes over the years , they are simply here to stay. The trio which consist of Cindy , Terry & Rhona cranked out some of their timeless classics like ” Free Your Mind ” , Never Gonna Get ” , ” Don’t Let Go ” , ” Giving Him Something He Can Feel “ & their anthem “Hold On” which had every female in the audience singing along as if it was their own song. If that wasn’t enough they gave a tribute to some of their influences from the 70s with a special medley which would make every soul singer who came before them proud.

Last but not least was the legendary BBD aka Bell Biv Devoe who tore the house down as ladies screamed their hearts out. The trio Ronnie , Rickey & Mike who rose to fame started over 30 years ago with New Edition proved that they can still rock a house all on their own. With the release of their new album ” Three Stripes ” via EOne it only makes sense that they closed out the show promoting their latest release. The crowd was all here for their latest singles “Run ” & “Finally” which was a treat to see them perform with SWV but the audience definitely came to see them rock out to some of their classics as well. BBD kicked off the show with ” Do Me Baby ” which had everyone on their feet and the crowed couldn’t contain themselves as they gave a special medley of their New Edition classics ” Telephone Man ” , ” Candy Girl ” & ” Cool It Now ” . Now if that wasn’t enough they slowed things down with their soulful hit the ” When Will I See You Smile Again “ that had everyone singing along word for word before they closed out the show with their classic anthem “Poison”. This past year has seen these men triumph with their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and their groundbreaking BET biopic ” The New Edition Story ” which only set things in motion for bigger things to come. If you didn’t have a chance to experience what we did then you most definitely missed out but if the tour is coming to your city I promise you this is one show you don’t want to miss. If you’re in the NYC area they will be back this July at NJPac so don’t hesitate to cop them tickets.
