Now it’s been a minute , 3 years to be exact but RnB Spotlight is back and from the looks of it it’s just getting bigger and better. Last night Music Manager & TV producer Cory Taylor brought back his popular showcase to the legendary SOB’s but this time with some special guest. Grammy award winning R&B legend Faith Evans and media mogul Datwon Thomas ( VIBE , BIllboard , KING ) has joined forces with Cory for a special project with some of today’s finest rising stars and trust me they definitely have one hell of task at hand. Over the past few months the 3 put together a nationwide talent search via Instagram to find some incredible talent for a special music project. Now of course the submissions were overwhelming but some of the finalist for their project made their way to the big stage for what was sure to be one hell of a show.

Indie artist Mag Elliott , Jay Marie , Jerzey Shawn , Quiona & Timothy McClure all hit the stage to perform classic covers of songs which definitely kept the crowd wanting more but there were a few stand outs that completely won us over. Soulful crooner Damon Parker took over the stage with a powerful cover of Brian McKnight’s “ Never Felt This Way “ which left everyone wondering where the hell this Virginia native has been hiding his gift that is truly needed today in R&B. One song wasn’t enough from this man and it was clear that if this was any indication of what he could bring to music , then he is definitely on his way. Powerhouse songstress Sharron Sings took control of the stage with a sultry performance of Avery Sunshine’s “ Call My Name “ but with a special twist she made that song all her own by adding a medley of Destiny’s Child classic hits “Say My Name” & “No No No” .

So what makes NYC so special is that you just never know what can happen on the spot and in this case thats what led the crowd to being introduced to a new sultry group Volume 4. The ladies who were just in attendance was given a shot to hit the stage and to our pleasant surprise , they hit us with a special Acapella medley of classic 90’s hits which definitely gave us that feel of girl groups we desperately have been missing today in music. But up next was rising star Steve Lovell who stole the show with his rendition of Floetry’s “ Say Yes “. Now it should come as no surprise that New Jersey is filled with incredible talent , I mean let’s not forget where the VOICE Whitney Houston comes from as well as the r&b diva Faith Evans herself. So it makes sense why Steve was their pick for this showcase but that man sang that song like I have never heard it before and honestly I’m not sure if I ever want to hear anyone else touch it besides him. He clearly was the highlight of the nites showcase but with acts like this , it’s clear to see that this special project is about to be something we all have been missing. Now if that wasn’t enough the legend herself Faith Evans hit the stage to perform her classic hit “ Love Like This “ with some special help from this special lineup of talent which has surely made their mark on the crowd tonite. Last night proved that Cory Taylor’s mission to keep real RnB alive has not gone in vain and with Faith & Datwon on his team , the best is yet to come. If you didn’t have the chance to come out , check out some of our exclusive footage from the special night below.
