The Grammy award winning pioneer died after a long battle with advanced pancreatic cancer. The chart topping powerhouse born in Memphis whose career spanned over 5 decades was last seen performing last November before retiring due to her failing health. The late singer was surrounded by her close family & loved ones when she passed in her Detroit home. Her family released a statement, saying, “In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart. We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family.”

The remarkable songstress broke barriers in the 60’s with her gift during the civil rights movement and went on to win 18 Grammys and sell over 75 million Records. The queen of soul also held the the record for the most entries on the Hot 100 list of any female artist for nearly 40 years up until last year.
