Last night the Urban World Film Festival kicked off its 20th anniversary in NYC at the AMC Empire 25 in Times Square. The big night was filled with film makers , directors , actors , press & fans who came out for the opening spotlight film ‘Queen Of Katwe’. Some of our faves hit the red carpet in celebration of this years anniversary including Jay R Ellis ( The Game , Insecure) , Taimak ( The Last Dragon ) , Leon ( The Five Heartbeats , Temptations , Waiting To Exhale ) & Vicky Jeudy (Orange Is The New Black ). Now of course one of the films biggest star David Oyelowo was in attendance to present the anticipated Disney film along with the director Mira Nair . The must see movie was an incredible coming of age story about a girl Phiona who strives to make a way out of noway playing chess in the midst of hardships while growing up in Uganda. The performances in the film from David Oyelowo , Lupita Nyong’o & newcomer Madina Nalwanga were stellar and had everyone raving once the film commenced.
